VoipMS Desktop

Frequently asked questions

How the desktop app stays light, talks to VoIP.ms, and keeps calling and messaging on the numbers you already own.

What does VoipMS Desktop do?

VoipMS Desktop is a Windows app for SIP calling, SMS/MMS, contacts, call history, and voicemail against your existing VoIP.ms account. It is not a carrier — VoIP.ms still bills minutes and messages.

What platforms are supported?

The current release is a Windows desktop client. Additional operating systems may follow. You need an active VoIP.ms account with SIP and (for messaging) API access enabled.

Do I need the VoIP.ms portal open?

No. After you save API and SIP credentials in Settings, the app talks directly to VoIP.ms. Keep the portal for billing, DID ordering, and account-level options.

How does SIP registration work?

Point the client at a VoIP.ms POP (vancouver.voip.ms, toronto.voip.ms, and others), enter the SIP username and password for your sub-account, and register. Inbound ringing and outbound dialing use that registration.

How does SMS and MMS work?

Messaging uses the VoIP.ms REST API with the credentials you store locally. Threads, attachments, and delivery status stay in the desktop inbox. Carrier filtering and 10DLC rules still apply on the VoIP.ms side.

Where are my credentials stored?

API and SIP secrets stay on your machine. voipmsdesk.com accounts are for licensing the software, not for proxying your VoIP.ms password through our servers.

How do licenses work?

Licenses are per seat on a monthly plan (Basic, Pro, or Teams). After checkout you can download the installer from your account. See Pricing for current options.

Do you offer a free plan?

New accounts can start a 7-day trial after signup. Once we exit preview, paid plans are required to keep a license active.
